The best things in life are free

The best thing about healthcare in Spain is that it’s completely free. First you’ll need to check if you’re covered, but don’t worry if you’re not – you still have options! All foreigners working in Spain will need to make social security contributions, which immediately entitles them to Spanish healthcare. Spouses and children will also be covered. Self-employed workers can apply for a social security number at their local social security office by completing a TA1 form.

If you are not working in Spain but are eligible for a Spanish pension or benefits then you will be entitled to healthcare. Also, if you are eligible for a pension in an EU member country, you will only need to complete an S1 form and present it to your social security office in Spain (INSS). Simple! That’s life on the Costa Del Sol.
